I’ve been playing Yamaha trumpets and flugelhorns for most of my professional career, stretching back four decades. I’ve owned practically every Xeno model, in some cases several of them. My current horn is the 25th Anniversary Xeno, which I’ve been playing since it was released. I wouldn’t have purchased as many trumpets as I have if not for Yamaha’s determination to innovate and push the boundaries of trumpet design. There is always something new on the horizon, and the horns just keep getting better and better, to the point that Yamaha has to be considered the world leader in trumpet design and manufacture. The Xeno label encompasses a range of horns, each with a specific personality, but a with a shared baseline of excellent playing characteristics. I could pick virtually any model off the line and feel comfortable playing it in any musical situation, which in my case ranges from lead trumpet to small group jazz. I would be remiss in not mentioning Yamaha’s commitment to music education, which is, in my experience, far beyond any other company, and a major reason why I am proud to call myself a Yamaha Artist.
